President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the Google office in New York yesterday, where he was welcomed by Google Public Sector CEO Karen Dahut.
During the meeting, President Muizzu engaged in discussions with the Google team, exploring areas of collaboration on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in public service delivery, promoting digital literacy, and developing data-driven solutions for climate resilience.
The president also highlighted the Maldives' ongoing efforts to create a digital economy in his address at the UN event on "Building Productive Capacities in Small Island Developing States."
In recent months, senior Maldives government officials have been visiting the United States as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Additionally, work has begun to introduce PayPal, the widely used global payment system, to the Maldives. The proposal was submitted to the company in early August.
President Muizzu is meeting with various global leaders and heads of international organizations during his first official visit to the United States.
