A group of people illicitly climbed aboard a safari cruiser outside of Kaafu atoll Maafushi island late Wednesday and demanded to buy alchol, assaulting the ship's captain when the crew refused to do so.

The six youth had boarded the safari cruise while tourists were also on board.

An official of the cruise told Mihaaru under condition of anonymity that the men arrived in a dinghy and circled the cruise a few times before boarding without permission and demanding to be sold alcohol. When the captain refused them, the young men had begun a feud and struck the captain across the face.

The official added that the incident had also scared the guests on board, who took the men to be pirates.

The crew of the safari reported the incident to Maldives Police Service who later arrested a 22-year-old male regarding the case.

Police did not reveal further details.
