The Maldivian team had clinched victory during the match hosted in Maldives at the Social Center in capital, Male' City, claiming three sets at 3-0 with ease.
The scores of the three sets were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-11.
A sports expert said that the Afghanistan team, in this tournament, features the most average lineup, therefore, can be defeated easily by the remaining three teams as well.
"The true challenge now begins for the Maldives. The two strongest opponents are remaining," said the expert.
In their second match, Maldives is scheduled to battle Tajikistan at 20:30 hrs tonight.
Kyrgyzstan defeated Tajikistan yesterday evening during their first match of the tournament, closing the game in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-21.
Kyrgyzstan is set to face off against Aghanistan this evening.
The semifinals are scheduled to begin on Tuesday after the group stages conclude tomorrow. The first two teams to meet in the semi are the first and fourth ranking teams while the teams placed second and third will battle for victory in the second match.
The match to decide the bronze winner and the finals are both scheduled to commence the day afterwards, on Wednesday.
