Expressing his heartfelt congratulations and opinions of an impressive address to the President on his Presidential Address yesterday, Qasim directed a question to the opposition, inquiring whether their decision to boycott was a harassment towards citizens.
Maamigili Constituency member, Qasim Ibrahim opined that the Presidential Address of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was the most perfect address by a president in the history of the country to date and addressed a question to the opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who had decided to boycott the address, inquiring whether their decision to boycott was an insult to the people of the country.
In a post on Social platform X, Qasim stated that he harbors no doubts that the most detailed and exemplary Presidential address to date was President Dr. Muizzu’s first Presidential Address at the parliament.
He directed felicitations and respects towards the presidents and thanked him for a job well done.
Qasim said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had addressed the people on the past and present state of the country alongside its development solutions in an inspirational manner that instilled hope.
“The Honorable President of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had delivered the Presidential Address stipulated in Article 84 of the Constituency detailed the governance efforts, backed with research and statistical data. Isn’t the boycott of this address by parliamentarian representatives of the 19th parliament term a harassment of the people of the country?” Qasim wrote in the post.
Prior to the Presidential Address yesterday, opposition coalition MDP and the Democrats had announced their decision to boycott the address meeting.
As the opposition party takes up the majority of the parliament, they possess a large amount of power inside the parliament. The sole attendees of this year’s presidential address were supporting members of the current government. While beginning the parliamentary meeting yesterday, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam announced that 24 members were in attendance at the meeting.
