The new chairman of New Radiant, Ahmed Mubeen, has stated that the former leadership of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) took unfair action against the club.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday evening, Mubeen revealed plans to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to seek justice after the club was "unfairly suspended."

When asked by Mihaaru News whether the club would pursue any further steps regarding the issue, Mubeen said that he had already attempted to resolve the matter with Maldivian authorities before escalating the issue to CAS.

"We have approached all the relevant sports agencies in the Maldives, including the Sports Minister [Abdulla Rafiu], the Sports Commissioner [Mohamed Tholal], and the Sports Council," Mubeen said.

"If we do not receive justice from the Maldivian authorities, we will take the case to CAS."

New Radiant was suspended in January 2019 by FAM while it was preparing to file a no-confidence motion against former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel. FAM said that the club had failed to pay its players' salaries, despite repeated requests to do so.

Mubeen said that FIFA had imposed a transfer ban on the club due to the unpaid salaries. However, he argued that FAM’s first action was to suspend the club, calling it "unfair."

While other clubs were able to play despite the transfer ban, New Radiant was unable to participate in any football activities due to the suspension, Mubeen said.

Mubeen, who is also a former member of Parliament and the Managing Director of the Regional Airport Company, said that he would not allow the club’s work to be linked to politics.
