Police seized 29kg of heroin believed to have been smuggled in from Pakistan and arrested four men.
During the operation last week, Police said the drugs were seized from a boat carrying the drugs worth MVR145 million. The vessel had reportedly gone out of Maldivian waters to bring in the drugs and was seized just outside Alif Dhaal Atoll.
Drug Enforcement Department head Moosa Ali said the vessel was taken to Dhoonidhoo island which houses the police detention facility for inspection.
The drugs were found hidden inside some gas cylinders and had tested positive for heroin, Ali explained.
