Seven people arrested in Addu on terrorism accusations

Seven people were arrested in Addu in a joint operation conducted by Police and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) against terrorism on Saturday.

Even though police revealed the number or arrests made, no further details were disclosed regarding the operation.

This was one of the operations police conducted against terrorism after the assassination attempt on Former President and current Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

According to MNDF both authorities have been running operations across Maldives since then.

Nasheed was attacked on May 6, as he was getting into his near his home in Male’. The attack lead to several injuries, and he underwent up to to 16 hours of emergency surgery at ADK. He went to Germany on Thursday to receive further medical treatment.

Three people were arrested in relation to the attacks, and the Criminal Court decreed 15 days as their remand period.
