Remand extended for accused rapist, one arrested for aiding him evade arrest

Remand in custody has been extended for man who was arrested yesterday on charges of drugging and raping a minor who is 13 years of age.

The 27 year old man was arrested yesterday. The incident occurred in a northern island of Maldives on last Sunday.

Police said that at the remand hearing, the court has extended his remand in custody by 30 days.

Additionally, another man, of 29 years, has been arrested for aiding the accused rapist in fleeing and evading arrest.

This person is also remanded in custody, for a period of 12 days, Police said.
