Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China is the most successful visit by a Maldivian leader to a foreign country.
President Muizzu arrived back in the Maldives on Saturday after concluding his first state visit to China, made at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Qasim said on X that the President's visit to China was more successful than any by a Maldivian leader before.
“I believe no Maldivian leader has completed such a successful trip before,” Qasim said.
He thanked the President for the aid and the development the country will receive after the successful visit.
"I would like to acknowledge that China's welcome to the President of the Maldives during his visit is the warmest ever extended to a Maldivian leader in China," he said.
He said that while the Maldives is a small country, it is an independent nation, and China fully respects the country's territorial integrity and independence.
He added that a substantial grant of USD 130 million has been provided to the Maldives during the visit. Additionally, development agreements worth billions of dollars were signed, benefiting various sectors on this trip.
Qasim expressed happiness that the locals had shared the good news that an ease of repayment of loans has been arranged for the Maldives by China for the next five years.
President Muizzu stated that the Maldives had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China for the construction of 30,000 social housing units in Rasmalé and the expansion of Velana International Airport.
