Over 100 cases of child abuse reported in August

According to Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, over 100 cases of child abuse were reported to the authority in August 2022.

The ministry revealed a total of 248 cases were filed with the authority during the review month. The majority of these cases fell into child abuse category.

Case figures;

- Child negligence - 33 cases

- Sexual abuse against children - 24 cases

- Physical abuse against children - 15 cases

- Children witness to domestic abuse - 11 cases

- Psychiatric injuries on children - 6 cases

- Bullying from other children - 4 cases

- Blackmail - 2 cases

- Abuse - 1 case

- Cyber bullying from other children - 1 case

- Other - 3 cases

In addition to cases related to child abuse and harassment, 16 disciplinary cases tied to children and four cases of infringement of children's rights were were reported to the authority.

Furthermore, 41 cases related to abuse due to sexism and domestic abuse were recorded in addition to 34 cases related to family issues, 12 cases of self-harm and suicide.

The ministry also reported 33 cases related to seeking assistance in caring for people with disabilities and elderly citizens. According to the authority a total of 188 children are currently under state guardianship.
