President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the National Award of Honour to five honourees, and the National Award of Recognition to 21 honourees late Monday.
The awards were at the ceremony held to mark this year’s National Day at Dharubaaruge convention centre.
1. The late Dr Afrasheem Ali (Posthumous), for his contributions towards Islamic awareness and Islamic education
2. The late Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari (Posthumous), for his contributions in the field of Islamic knowledge and education
3. Mohamed Waheed (Madulu), for his contributions in the area of Dhivehi literature and promoting Dhivehi language
4. Sayyid Ali, for his contributions to sports in sportsmanship and sports development
5. The late Sayyid Hassan (Posthumous), for his contributions in the area of sports in sportsmanship and sports development
1. Mohamed Thaufeeq Ali, in the area of recitation and teaching of the Holy Quran
2. Dr Abdulla Jameel, for his contributions in the field of Islamic awareness and Islamic education
3. Mohamed Shifan, for his contributions in the area of Dhivehi literature in promoting oratory skills
4. Maryam Shathurath Shakir, for her contributions in the field of teaching children with special needs
5. Ahmed Afaal, for his contributions in health sector development
6. Rahma Easa, for her contributions in the area of human rights and social protection, especially services to persons with special needs
7. Abdulla Shafeeq Nishan, for his contributions in the fisheries sector
8. Zeenaz Hussain, for her contributions in the field of tourism and training tourism-sector staff
9. Tiny Hearts of Maldives, for its contribution to social work
10. Aneesa Mohamed, in the area of promoting arts and crafts
11. Ibrahim Solih, for his contributions to promoting arts and crafts
12. Shaziya Saeed, in the field of diving
13. Aishath Shareefa, for her contributions in the area of hair care and beauty
14. Mohamed Shakir Abdulla, in the area of disseminating news and information
15. Hussain Fariyad, for his contributions in the field of news and information dissemination
16. Imran Mohamed, in the field of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship
17. Ismail Mahfooz, for his contributions in the area of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship
18. Ibrahim Shiuree, in the field of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship
19. Fadhuwa Zahir, for her contributions to sports and sportsmanship
20. Abdul Rasheed Ali, for his contributions in the area of performing arts
21. Aishath Shamla, for her contributions to the field of applied arts.
Speaking at the function, President Solih conveyed felicitations to the recipients of this year’s National Awards.
This year marks the first time for the national awards to be presented on the National Day of Maldives, which is commemorated on the 1st day of the month Rabee ul Awwal in the Islamic calendar. Previously, the awards were conferred on Republic Day marked on November 11.
