The individual who was arrested for damaging the ballot box placed in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Vaadhoo on Saturday, September 30, has been given an additional 60 days in remand by the court.
He was arrested on Saturday, and according to the police, the court ordered the extension of his detention when he was taken to court on October 1.
The 35 year old male reportedly broke the ballot box in anger after being told he cannot cast his vote without a valid ID.
The incident happened close to 5 p.m. when the time given for voting ended. The votes in the ballot box were counted since none of the ballot papers were damaged.
