The government on Monday announced the decision to lease out land plots in the island of Vaadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, for guest house development in an effort to expand local tourism.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism, it was revealed that 16 plots measuring 5,000 square feet were allocated for guesthouse development by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih under the Maldives Tourism Act.
According to the ministry, the island council of Vaadhoo and relevant authorities are currently cooperating to commence the bidding process for the plots as swiftly as possible.
The development of local tourism is a pledge of the current government, with the tourism ministry and private parties working towards the goal.
