Gas cylinder explosion victim passes away

A local woman, who recently received several degrees of burns following a gas cylinder explosion had passed away while getting treatment in Male' City. She passed away sometime during Sunday early morning, August 21.

A council member speaking from Gaaf Dhaal Rathafandhoo, the victim's residential island and place of incidence, said the woman, 55, had received burns when she had attempted to light the stove while the cylinder leaked gas.

The victim had received severe burns to her face and in various parts of her body following the explosion.

She was immediately transferred to the island's health center, after which she was transferred Abdul-Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo, in the same atoll.

The council member who spoke with local media claims the victim received burns over 50 percent of her body.

Following her treatment at Thinadhoo, she was airlifted to Male' City, via a Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) helicopter, and transferred subsequently to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) where she passed away on Sunday morning, around 6 am.

Funeral prayer for the deceased will be held after Luhr (noon) prayer at Aasahara Mosque.
