Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Monday, presented an official letter to the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, at a meeting held in Port Louis, the Mauritian capital.
The letter, written by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, requested support for Maldives' bid to host the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
Minister Shahid also extended warm greetings from President Solih to the Prime Minister. who also serves as the Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Mauritius.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Prime Minister Jugnauth deliberated on ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations through increased cooperation in a variety of areas.
In addition to Minister Shahid, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Development Ahmed Mahloof participated in the meeting.
The two ministers also met with the Mauritius Minister of Youth and Sports Jean Christophe Stephen Toussaint as well as President of the Mauritius Olympic Committee Philippe Hao Thyn Voon Ha Shun.
Minister Shahid expressed admiration for the facilities arranged for the 2019 IOIG which will be held in Mauritius from June 18 to 29. Both ministers are scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of the games.
The foreign minister and youth minister are key members of President Solih's Special Envoy, which was formed to garner support for Maldives' 2023 IOIG bid. The envoy, scheduled to depart to Comoros shortly, has already visited Madagascar and Seychelles.
