A community library has been established in GDh. Fiyoaree through the Community Fund of Bank of Maldives (BML). The project was carried out by local NGO, Fiyoaree Association for Community Empowerment (FACE).
According to the NGO, the aim for the initiative is to motivate island residents to "engage in reading and spend quality time outdoors with family." The library was built as part of the children's park on the island.
Commenting on the project, the Vice President of FACE, Suruhan Mohamed said, "We have not had an outdoor space dedicated for families on the island. Our hope is that this space will not only be useful but will make a real difference to our community."
Mohamed further said children visiting the park can now spend time reading.
The Community Fund initiative by the national bank aims to support local NGOs and individual parties towards community-based efforts in the fields of education, environment and other community-centric areas.
The bank has funded over 60 similar projects across the country.
