The woman shared a post of Facebook where she stated that she was publicly sharing her story as she could no longer tolerate the violence being inflicted on her by her family.
She said that she is currently pregnant, and continues to face physical abuse from people at home, including her father and her younger sibling who is still a minor.
She shared details of the some of the abuse she claims she has faced, stating that they have physically assaulted her on her abdomen while pregnant, as well as hitting her head against places.
In her post, she tagged authorities including the Maldives Police Service and appealed for help to bring an end to the violence.
With her post, she shared photos of wounds near her neck and on her arms.
An account on social media X shared a screenshot of the post and tagged Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan, calling for an investigation.
Shifan responded that relevant authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
No further details have been shared regarding the case.
The woman said on facebook that the family had lied to the Police when they made a house visit, adding that she was facing difficulties in moving about and walking due to the abuse faced.n
