One hundred individuals fined for littering on the streets

Male’ City Council stated today that their enforcement against littering saw one hundred people taken action against, each being levied a fine of MVR 500.

Male’ City Council has issued fines against 100 individuals caught dumping garbage on the streets.

Littering has become a persistent problem ahead of the holy month of Ramadan despite fines being imposed.

The surge in household cleaning has led to garbage and furniture being discarded on the streets leading to litter buildup in several areas of Male’ City. To combat this, Male’ City Council and WAMCO launched a special road cleaning initiative.

Littering is prohibited in public areas such as streets, parks, ports and commercial areas in Male’ City and Villimale’. Violations will be reported by the Male’ City Council to Maldives Police Service and a fine will be imposed accordingly.

Male’ City Council stated today that their enforcement against littering saw one hundred people taken action against, each being levied a fine of MVR 500.

Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim announced via his X account yesterday that in the past 16 days alone, Male’ City Council has collected 222.5 tons of garbage.

According to Male’ City Council, despite efforts to clean the streets, garbage dumping is a recurring issue.

The accumulation of waste on the streets has led to restricted parking, causing significant inconvenience for both drivers and pedestrians alike.
