Following the 20th Communist Party of China’s (CPC) National Congress, the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin gave intimate insight into the economic giant’s prospective future, and where the country was progressing forward.

Speaking about the significance of the now concluded CPC National Congress, H.E. Lixin noted that the congress took place at a critical time as the party and the Chinese public “embark on a new journey to build China” for the modern age. At the congress, analysis was made on the international and domestic circumstances tied to Chinese sovereignty and work done during the past five years were reviewed to understand the needs for the country in its path to modernization.

The Ambassador further confirms the congress made major strategic plans for China’s direction in the modern era. Moreover, she confirms the most significant achievement of the congress was election of the new leadership with incumbent President Xi Jinping at its core, to promote and practice “democracy throughout the process” of progress. She further notes that “history has repeatedly proven that a strong leadership core and scientifically advanced theories are the key to a country’s development and growth”.

Speaking about the work carried by the party, H.E. Lixin noted that the party’s Central Committee pursued a strategy of “national rejuvenation amid global changes of a magnitude unseen in a country”.

Furthermore, the central task of CPC will be to lead the “Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a concerted effort to realize the Second Centenary Goal of building China” into a modern nation “in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts” through a path of modernization. To achieve this, the party have adopted a two-step strategic plan; which involves realization of modernization from 2020 to 2035, and to build the country as a “prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful” nation from 2020 through the middle of the current century.

The essential requirements of China’s modernization efforts include; upholding the leadership of CPC, pursuing high-quality development, developing whole-process people’s democracy, enriching the people’s cultural lives, achieving common prosperity for all, promoting harmony between humanity and nature, building a human community with a shared future, and creating a new form of human advancement, remarked H.E. Lixin

Speaking in the same regard, the Ambassador said that “over 40 years of relentless reform and opening-up”, China has achieved fast economic growth and long-term social stability. She further noted that the country’s economy has shown great resilience, potential and latitude which will not change, and remain on a positive trajectory in the long run.
