Bangladesh President Mohamed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have congratulated president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on his victory in the recently concluded presidential election.
Both Bangladeshi president and PM hoped to strengthen the bond between the Maldives and Bangladesh in the coming days, reported the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr. Muizzu won the runoff election held last Saturday, September 30, securing 54 percent of the votes, while his opponent, the incumbent president, faced defeat with 46 percent of the votes.
Meanwhile, the outgoing president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the state's transitional efforts have begun for which a transition committee was formed.
The president-elect is expected to swear in and assume office on November 17.
