Over 24,000 buggy trips in Vilimalé within a month

The Malé City Council announced that the buggy service, which was launched in Villimalé last month, has received a positive response from the public, and has made more than 24,000 trips within a month.

At a press conference held on Thursday morning to update the media on the council's ongoing work, Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that there has been a significant increase in demand for the buggy service in Villimalé.

According to the Mayor, a total of 24,328 buggy trips were made during the month.

- 15,392 buggy trips were booked via phone

- 8,936 trips were made on the regular route

Dr. Muizzu added that in addition to transporting passengers, some buggy trips were also made to transport goods.

On April 3, the city council launched its buggy service in Vilimalé, deploying a total of 10 buggies to provide transportation services on the island. Among these are two buggies designed to carry goods and luggage, as well as one buggy that can be used for emergency patient transport.

Free buggy travel was available in Vilimalé until the end of Ramadan, except for private hires. While the city council charges MVR 2 for regular buggy trips, the fees for private hires vary as follows:

- MVR 6 for a 4-seat buggy

- MVR 10 for a 6-seat buggy

- MVR 15 for a 12-seat buggy

When the city council launched the buggy service in Vilimalé, MTCC's electric bus service had already been in operation on the island since January. Presently, MTCC charges MVR 5 as bus fare in Vilimalé.
