The search for the missing person in the Gulhifalhu fire incident last Thursday night has lead to authorities finding human remains in the area.
Police said they were conducting the search in the building and the surrounding area yesterday around noon when a human skeleton was found.
The fire incident took place in an accommodation block used by Afcons, the company contracted with the development of the Thilamalé bridge; connecting the capital city of Malé and Thilafushi. In the incident, 78 people were taken to hospital with various injuries sustained in the fire. Of them, 32 people are admitted in the hospital and undergoing treatment.
Four of the 24 people admitted with minor injuries had undergone surgery, while the rest were discharged from the hospital.
The Bridge Office, set up by the Planning Ministry to oversee the bridge project, said one person was missing after the fire broke out in the accommodation block used by employees of Afcons.
The identity of the man who has been missing for over than 48 hours is yet to be revealed by the authorities.
The company said that they are providing assistance in the form of clothes, suitcases, mobile phones and finance to those affected in the fire.
