January 23, 2024: The government has assured that it will not issue parking violation stickers in Malé without providing alternative parking locations. Consequently, the police have temporarily ceased issuing stickers for illegal parking. This has led to an increase in poor parking practices, with vehicles being parked on both sides of major roads and motorcycles being parked ways that inconvenience pedestrians. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu recently announced that the construction of parking buildings in Malé City will commence in April. Over the last five years, 69,780 new vehicles have been registered, with more than 42,000 vehicles registered solely in Malé City. -- Photo: Fayaaz Moosa
