Poor hygiene discovered during cafe'/restaurant inspection

The inspection was carried out in food establishments located in Male', Hulhumale', Hulhule, Vilimale', Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, and Crossroads.

The Male' City Council has conducted inspections of cafe's and restaurants in Male' City, revealing that a significant number of locations are unhygienic and unsafe for food preparation.

The inspection was carried out by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Male' City Council, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Hulhumale' Hospital from February 18 to March 2 in food establishments located across Male', Hulhumale', Hulhule, Vilimale', Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu, and Crossroads.

In a statement released after the inspection, the Male' City Council said that during the extensive inspection of food establishments in Male' conducted in collaboration with HPA from February 22-29, a significant number of unhygienic establishments were identified.

Furthermore, the City Council said that foreigners operating food establishments without obtaining permission were discovered, and appropriate actions will be taken against them.

Male' City was divided into eight zones for the inspection and eight teams were deployed to inspect food preparation establishments throughout the City.

Male' City Council has shared some videos taken during the inspection.

One video depicts a large plastic bowl of rice placed on a table without a cover. Moreover, food items were stored without proper hygiene, and the interior of the establishment appeared to be in a poor and dilapidated condition.

Another video reveals food being prepared in unclean conditions. The footage shows the dough being prepared to make roshi (flatbread), with the dough balls placed on a table along with pots on the same surface.
