During the televised address earlier the President Solih highlighted that this occasion was close to the people hearts in terms of religion, culture, and society as a whole. On this note, he urged everyone to take the time to connect with family and friends and exchange greetings of the holy day.

Eid al-Fitr, the festival held to mark the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar. The two consecutive days following the day of Eid al-Fitr are predetermined public holidays in Maldives.

He also reiterated his stance on condemning the attackers as inhumane and stressed that any attempt on taking a human life will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

President Solih assured that the incident would be thoroughly investigated and those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.

Elaborating on the second factor, he spoke about the recent surge in the number of positive cases and stated that due to this, the country has no choice but to take strengthened measures. He also urged everyone to work together to combat the spread of the virus, so that the stress on the healthcare system may be reduced.

Additionally, the President expressed sincere gratitude towards the healthcare workers, volunteers, and members of the armed forces for their selfless service to the nation during this time.

As Wednesday, May 12 is marked as International Nurses Day, President Solih took the time to send greets of the occasion to all the nurses across the country. He also thanked them for their contributions to society.
