Maldives' national carrier Maldivian is preparing to commence direct flights between Haa Dhaalu Atoll in the north and Addu Atoll in the south.
According to the airline's operator Island Aviation Services (IAS), Maldivian will operate from Kulhudhuffushi City to Addu City every Thursday, and vice versa on Saturdays.
The flights will make 20-minute stops at Velana International Airport en route for refuelling.
Ticket fares start from MVR 1,444 for one-way flights, and may be purchased via Maldivian's website at maldivian.aero or its mobile application.
IAS stated that the scheduled flights between Kulhudhuffushi and Addu is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development, in order to mobilise economic activity between the northern and southern atolls of the country.
Maldivian's announcement comes two months after the airline halted domestic operations on April 18, over the COVID-19 pandemic.
IAS revealed, per local media Mihaaru, that Maldivian is also preparing to resume scheduled operations to other domestic airports as well. The destinations include Dharavandhoo in Baa Atoll, Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Thimarafushi in Thaa Atoll, and Kadhdhoo in Laamu Atoll.
Maldivian is also preparing to commence flights to Maavaarulu in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, the latest destination added to the airline's domestic network.
