According to MET, gusts of 64 miles per hour were recorded in Meemu Muli yesterday. The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Raa Alifushi with 40.4 mm of rainfall.
With the rainy season, Southwest monsoon ('Hulhan'gu') intensifying in the Maldives, Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) reported that the strongest winds yesterday was recorded in Meemu Atoll Muli.
According to MET, gusts of 64 miles per hour were recorded in Muli around 12:40 hrs yesterday.
An Orange Warning was also issued for several hours in the southernmost atolls of Maldives, Addu and Fuvahmulah cities. The area recorded strong winds reaching 55 miles per hour.
Seas are also expected to be very rough during this time. Travelling by sea is discouraged unless absolutely necessary and must be done with all safety measures in place.
The strongest winds recorded in the Maldives were in Seenu Atoll (the southernmost atoll) Gan on May 29, 1991, with wind gusts reaching 103.5 miles per hour.
According to MET, the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Raa atoll (northern Maldives) Alifushi, which received 40.4 mm of rainfall. The second highest rainfall was recorded in Noonu atoll (southern Maldives) Maafaru, which received 40.1 mm of rainfall.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for torrential rains, strong winds, and rough seas. across different parts of Maldives. MET has also advised people to be vigilant as flooding is expected in some areas.
