Maldves Police Service (MPS) are currently investigating a case involving the placement of Christian literature in a mailbox of the sixth tower of Hiya flats located in Hulhumale’ Phase 2.

Concerns were raised, with a picture circulating on social media showing two foreign women near the mailboxes carrying a bag.

The photo suggests that the foreigners, believed to be from Germany, placed pieces of paper containing QR codes for websites offering access to a Dhivehi translation of what is referred to as 'Jesus', as well as of the Bible, into the mailbox.

MPS spokesperson, Ahmed Shifan, stated via a post that the suspects were taken to the Hulhumale’ Phase 2 police station.

The case is under investigation for allegedly placing documents that are in violation of the ‘Protection of Religious Unity Act’. The individuals arrived in the Maldives on tourist visas.

According to MPS, further investigations are underway.
