Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to establish a fish weighing facility in Gaafu Alifu atoll Gemanafushi if re-elected for a second term.
President Solih made the announcement during a campaign rally on Wednesday evening, August 9, while addressing the residents of Gemanafushi. He highlighted that several initiatives have been undertaken in Gemanafushi to address the challenges faced by local fishermen, and emphasized the importance of the island's fishing industry. Gemanafushi is known for its thriving fisheries sector and is home to a substantial community of fishers.
President Solih reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the fisheries sector in Gemanafushi, emphasizing that he would launch new projects aimed at further enhancing fisheries activities on the island if he is re-elected for a second term.
President Solih announced a series of initiatives that he intends to implement on the island during his second term. Among these plans, he highlighted the establishment of a dedicated facility where fishers can conveniently weigh and store their catch.

President Solih is currently visiting the residential islands of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaal atolls, and is expected to visit more islands on Thursday, August 10.
