A local fisherman from Gaaf Alif atoll Gemanafushi has died abruptly while onboard a fishing vessel.
The deceased has been identified as one Mohamed Waseem, 50.
Gemanafushi council's president Ibrahim Nashid confirmed receiving news of the local fisherman's demise after late-afternoon prayer on Wednesday, September 21. The fisherman embarked on his trip earlier this week, said Nashid.
The council president further affirmed the deceased was in good health at the time he left on the fishing trip.
At the time of reporting, Nashid confirms the island council was communicating with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) to have the deceased's body transferred to the island. The vessel was approximately 50 miles outside of Gemanafushi at the time of Waseem's demise.
