The new draining system set up near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, which sees the some of the heaviest flooding in Male', has begun being used today.
With this system in use, the area is no longer seeing the levels of flooding it previously experienced, which used to go on for days.
Heavy rains since early this morning have seen many areas of Male' being flooded, but this area remains clear.
A media official from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed that use of the draining system was begun today.
The road remains clear from Ameenee Magu till Thajudeen School. However, there is still flooding further down the road from Hiriya School to Social Centre.
MNDF is also using pumps to drain flood water from roads across the city.
Meanwhile, MET Office has forecast adverse weather conditions to continue, with White Alert issued to some parts of the country, and Yellow Alert in others. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas are expected for the next 24 hours as well.
