MTCC contracts Al-Shaali Marine to commission speedboats for RTL initiative

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) contracts marine service giant Al-Shaali Marine for the production of speedboats.

Al-Shaali has been commissioned to produce the vessels for the Raajje-Transport Link (RTL) initiative coming under the "Integrated National Public Ferry Network" project, kicked off by the government. MTCC CEO Adam Azim signed on behalf of the RTL service provider while Abdulla Hussain, the Chairman of Al-Shaali Marine signed on behalf of the contractor.

The marine service provider has been commissioned to produce a total of 65 speedboats within a two-year duration, with a project value of MVR537 million. The vessels Al-Shaali set to produce, is reportedly going to comparatively larger than the current vessels in the RTL fleet, with a 50-passenger capacity.

The vessels will come with specialized ramps, and toilet facilitated for differently-abled persons as well. Though the passenger capacity will be reportedly bigger, the design and seating ergonomics will remain intact.

While Al-Shaali has been contracted to complete the vessels in a two-year period, MTCC CEO affirms the contractor will attempt to expedite its production.

Azim remains hopeful RTL services will progress, despite the current administration close to a wind-up. He had thanked for the support and endorsement received from relevant state bodies and authorities in sustaining the ferry service.

The initial commenced with service introduction in Haa Dhaal followed by Haa Alif and recent in Shaviyani - the three atolls fall under phase one of the initiative.

MTCC is currently gearing up to launch the integrated ferry services under the second phase.
