Negotiations have begun between Fuvahmulah City Council and Regional Airports Company (RACL) regarding lengthening the Gnaviyani Atoll Fuvahmulah Airport runway and establishing additional facilities including a flying school.

According to RACL, in the project for expanding Fuvahmulah Airport, the runway orientation will be changed and expanded to allow for landing jets. Additionally, the expansion of the apron area to allow jet parking, establishing a method to procure jet fuel and establishing a flying school is also included in this project.

RACL said the possible options of how the expansion of the runway can be implemented have been shared with the Council. They also held discussions regarding the Airport Development Master Plan, according to RACL.

Additionally, discussions also ensued on building a tourist zone at the vacant land south of the airport.

Fuvahmulah Airport is one of the six airports operated by RACL.
