Maldives Police Service, on Saturday, confirmed that a 17-year-old male drowned in the lagoon of Fuvahmulah, near Maaneyre Athiri area.
According to police, the child was found underwater while authorities were searching for him after he was reported as missing at around 1645hrs.
Police stated that the child was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment, after he was retrieved from the water at 1550hrs.
At approximately 1850hrs, authorities confirmed that the child had passed away at the hospital.
