The Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Saturday released 49 individuals from the quarantine facility in Fun Island Resort after testing negative for COVID-19.
The individuals were placed under quarantine, as per HPA's decision to mandate a 14-day quarantine period for all incoming passengers to Maldives with the exception of tourists.
Speaking at a previously held press conference, Dr Moosa Murad detailed that HPA considered the 14-day quarantine period from the day after an individual is transferred to a facility. Tests are conducted on the fifteenth day, after which the person will be released, should the result prove negative.
Furthermore, Dr Murad revealed that an exit-screening would be conducted on these individuals before they are allowed to leave the facility.
Presently, Maldives records 19 confirmed and six active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 13 recoveries. While there are two confirmed cases of Maldivians, no local to local transmissions have been recorded.
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected over 1,118,200 people and claimed over 59,200 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 229,200 people have recovered.
