In parliament today, some MPs have raised concerns that some of the outgoing government offices and companies are destroying paperwork during the transitional period. The MPs have raised these concerns while on Sunday, a staff of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM) released on social media a video of the company destroying documents in a concrete mixer. This FSM Staff, Ahmed Anees, has since been suspended from duties. Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb stated today that there are allegations that the government is destroying paperwork, and that this has risen at a time when there are multiple cases of corruption within government companies being investigated. "It is not right for the government to destroy any paperwork within the transitional period. It should not be done so," Ilyas said, noting that all paperwork must be accessible to President Elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration. Maafannu Mid constituency MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bondey) stated that while the budget includes an allocation of about MVR 1 billion for government companies, the government is destroying paperwork now instead of being accountable. "There was no response to the letters we sent. Instead, they mixed up the documents with cement and water and ran it all through a concrete mixer. This is their way of being accountable," Bondey said. He alleged that actions such as these are undertaken to conceal acts of corruption that may have occurred within the company. FSM has so far not released any statements on this matter.
