Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) temporarily shifted services to the reclaimed suburb of Hulhumale' following Monday's fire incident at T-Jetty in the capital city of Male'.

Vessels which previously sought refilling services from FSM, a subsidiary of State Trading Organization (STO), will now have to travel to the company's pump station in Hulhumale'.

Maldives Police Service revealed that one speedboat and four oil bowsers were burnt beyond repair during the fire while three additional bowsers were also damaged.

Although authorities have not yet disclosed an official cause for the incident, eyewitnesses stated that the fire occurred while the speedboat was being refuelled by a bowser. They claimed that the fire was sparked by a cigarette and that the flames quickly spread to nearby oil bowsers.

Seven locals and two expatriates sustained varying degrees of burns in the fire and were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Although two individuals were already discharged, the remaining burn victims are still hospitalized with one person receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The T-Jetty fire occurred only 10 days after a major blaze ravaged four warehouses and seven residential buildings in Henveiru Ward, killing one woman, displacing 400 individuals and incurring considerable financial damages.
