Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has met with the President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Foreign Minister is currently on an official trip to Sri Lanka, from June 3rd to 6th, on invitation from his counterpart, Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka Ali Sabry.

Foreign Ministry stated that at the meeting with President Wickremesinghe, deliberations were held on further strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Zameer also met with Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Ali Sabry yesterday. This meeting included official talks about further expanding the economy, as well as the education, business and health sectors of both countries.

During this meeting, discussions were held regarding mutual support in monitoring each country's Exclusive Economic Zone as both countries are heavily dependent on the fisheries industry.

Additionally, the two Ministers discussed continued collaboration in defence and security areas, with additional training opportunities to be facilitated for related institutions of both countries.

Both Ministers agreed that more robust steps need to be taken to protect from climate change and its effects.

The two countries also spoke of bringing an end to terrorism and extremism, illegal drugs, and human trafficking, with an increased focus on protecting human rights.

Reiterating the Maldives' stand on Palestine, Zameer further revealed that both countries hoped for an end to the genocide in Palestine, and for humanitarian aid to be allowed in for the Palestinians in dire need.

The Minister also met with several leading businessmen, political leaders and Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka.
