Minister Shaheem strongly condemned the violence in Palestine and claims by Israel to attack Rafah. He said that a declaration will be submitted in support of the application by South Africa.
The Maldives has called for action to stop Israel's genocide of the people of Palestine at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The statement was made by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, on behalf of the Maldives at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Minister Shaheem stated that he strongly condemned the violence in Palestine and claims by Israel to attack Rafah.
He called on the international community to take necessary measures to stop the acts of genocide by Israel and urged for stronger measures to ensure an adequate supply of food and other basic necessities to the people of Gaza.
The Minister also highlighted the Maldives' statement in favor of Palestine in a case filed by the United Nations General Assembly seeking the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory on the legal consequences of policies and practices in the occupied state of Palestine, including East Jerusalem.
He added that a declaration will be submitted in support of the application by South Africa.
The OIC is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1969, consisting of 57 member states, with 48 being Muslim-majority countries. The IOC has consistently advocated in favor of the Palestinian cause. The Maldives became a member of the OIC in 1976.
