The premise which had housed the 'Haruge' or main party hub of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and The Democrats located near Artificial Beach in Male' City has been leased to the People's National Congress (PNC).

This 'Haruge' has been primary center where the opposition MDP had operated most of their political activities.

Following MDP's inter-party dispute that led to division among members, The Democrats had utilized this premise as their designated party booth up until the recent parliamentary election held last month.

After vacating the premises, the ruling party, PNC is currently preparing to utilize the space for their own political activities. Renovation of the premise is currently ongoing with the exterior walls painted turquoise blue - the official party color - among other works.

Mihaaru News reported that the owner of the land where the hub is located, Shafiyya Zubair, who is also a prominent activist, stated that the premises have been leased to a close associate when inquired on the matter. However, she has not revealed the identity of the tenant nor specified the relations between the tenant and PNC, as reported by Mihaaru.

Shafiyya had backed The Democrats presidential candidate, Ilyas Habeeb, during the recent presidential polls and endorsed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the second round of the election.
