Speaking at a meeting at the ruling PNC hub, Abdul Raheem addressed the accusations and criticisms directed at the government and the PPM/PNC leadership by the People's National Front (PNF) in a series of front office meetings led by former President Yameen.
Progressive Party of Maldives/People's National Congress (PPM/PNC) Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla said last night that former President Abdulla Yameen's dissatisfaction with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stemmed from Muizzu's stating that he would not allow anyone else to hold authority over him.
Speaking at a meeting at the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) hub, Abdul Raheem addressed the accusations and criticisms directed at the government and the PPM/PNC leadership by the People's National Front (PNF) in a series of 'Front Office' (PNF party hub) meetings led by Yameen.
Abdul Raheem claimed that Yameen left PPM/PNC and formed PNF because he could not tolerate another person being in power.
"President Yameen disliked President Muizzu when he said that no one else would have any authority over him. That is why he [Yameen] left President Muizzu's side," he said.
Abdul Raheem said that Yameen's distaste began when President Muizzu wanted to hold a rally to thank the people after winning the election. Yameen had wanted to wait until his release from jail, but President Muizzu insisted on holding the rally as planned as he had announced it to the public.
"That was the beginning of President Muizzu becoming bad in Yameen's eyes," Abdul Raheem said.
He emphasized that Yameen's departure from the party was not due to any mistakes made by President Muizzu or the party leadership.
"I am talking about these things to clear up matters with the people," he added.
Abdul Raheem also addressed Yameen's recent statement that President Muizzu would be unable to investigate the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) fraud case, the largest corruption case in Maldivian history.
Abdul Raheem called on President Muizzu to establish an independent commission to investigate the MMPRC case as requested by Yameen.
However, he proposed the formation of a second committee, in addition to the one chaired by Yameen, to investigate the matter.
"A second committee should be formed. Once the committee is formed, I should be made the chair of the committee. The members should be appointed by me, and I will look into the MMPRC case. If it is looked into, you will know what will happen next," he said.
The investigation would reveal details of the millions in Yameen's personal accounts, and Yameen would have to explain to the public how he acquired the money, Abdul Raheem said.
