A total of 59 individuals have graduated from the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme in the Maldives, while another 71 students are currently enrolled in the programme.
The graduation ceremony was held at Maldives National University on June 24. The one-year program provides training and experience in various areas such as housekeeping and guest services, marine transport, water sports, PADI dive master, retail, photography, finance, front office and recreations and engineering.
Since its launch in 2001, the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship Program in the Maldives has provided valuable experience and training to more than 800 students. Last year, three individuals from Palau, an island nation in Oceania in the western Pacific had participated in the programme.
During the ceremony, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom expressed his happiness at seeing more young individuals entering the tourism sector after receiving training through the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship programme.
The Minister said that currently, 70 percent of salaries in the tourism sector are allocated to top management positions, and the government's aim is to increase the number of Maldivians in such well-paid senior roles. He highlighted the importance of developing local talent within the industry and creating opportunities for them to excel in high-level positions.
Four Seasons Regional Vice President, Armando Kraenzlin, highlighted the success of the apprenticeship programme in producing talented individuals in the hospitality sector. Recognizing the evolving needs of the industry, the programme has expanded its offering to include resort photography.
Armando said that Four Seasons gave prioritized providing training in new and emerging fields to meet industry demands. He further noted the exceptional culinary skills demonstrated by last year's participants.
Armando emphasized the programme's commitment to regional representation. he said that special priority is given to selecting participants from both the northern and southern regions of the country. This year, new entrants were recruited from 29 islands across 15 atolls, while last year's program included participants from 30 islands of the Maldives.
Since 2010, the Four Seasons Hospitality Apprenticeship programme has received accreditation from the Maldives government. Individuals between the ages of 17 and 20 who have completed their O' level education and can speak in both Dhivehi and English language can participate in the programme.
