Maldives State Shipping (MSS), one of the most recent additions to the state-owned enterprises and a subsidiary of State Trading Organization (STO) will be commencing its freight operations between Malaysia and Singapore.

Mr. Abdulla Saeed, the Managing Director of MSS has attested on this commencement, noting that the newly acquired cargo vessel for the company, scheduled for a July berth in Maldives, will be carrying consignments from the said two countries.

With the addition of the new vessel to its fleet, MSS will facilitate Maldivian importers to redirect their consignments to both Malaysia and Singapore instead of third-party hauls from China, Thailand and Indonesia.

Furthermore, MSS Managing Director noted that this expansion in the company's operation will enhance freight forwarding of goods from the region to be expedited.

Currently the company's operations center between Maldives and Colombo, Sri Lanka with only one vessel under its direct ownership.

Meanwhile, MSS will be expanding its fleet to a size of three with new acquisitions expected to berth in the Maldives in June and July - one in each month.

The shipping company was created in 2020 to resuscitate the previous shipping company's legacy and extend the island nation's economy into the sector.
