President's Office instructs all government employees to get inoculated

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has instructed all government employees to get vaccinated before August 15 on Tuesday.

In the 22nd Directive publicised by the President's Office states that all government employees that have not yet received any doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are required to do so before August 15. The second dose of the vaccine should then be taken as required.

This directive was released after Health Protection Agency (HPA) released a circular on Monday that urges all government employees to inoculate.

President's Office has stated this would apply to employees in government agencies and subsidiaries as well.

They further urged everyone to get the vaccines as soon as possible, even those that may have been adviced against it due to pre-existing condition.

"Employees who had been advised against vaccination, due to pre-existing medical conditions, by a medical doctor registered in the Maldives, are also urged to become immunised as their health allows," the President's Office said.

In a cabinet meeting held yesterday, President Ibrahaim Mohamed Solih stated the steps Maldivian government had taken to control the spread of COVID-19 and the community-wide inoculation program had made progress towards achieving a new normal.

Furthermore, they deliberated on the best ways to stop the coronavirus from spreading further, in addition to what can e done to overcome the obstacles the Maldivian economy has faced as well.

So far, 325,060 people in Maldives have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is over 50 percent of the eligible population.

The government plans to ensure that 90 percent of the eligible population in Maldives have received the vaccine before August is over.
