The Attorney Genera's (AG) Office on Wednesday, charged former vice president Abdulla Jihad over illicit enrichment during the tenure of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The charges were filed at the Civil Court over the controversial allocation of two apartments at 'Rehendhi 3' luxury apartment complex in capital city Male, to Jihad, through allowances and priveledges granted to the vice president.

Although he was given an official notice to vacate the premise, Jihad moved out on February 17, 2020, more than a year after the notice was given.

The state is seeking to recover MVR 1,109,227 from Jihad as part of rent, maintenance and utility costs.
