The Criminal Court, on Monday, decided that the court cannot proceed further with the government’s case against MP for Central Hithadhoo constituency, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi.
The case was filed in 2015 over the arrest of Chief Justice Abdulla Mohamed while Didi was the MNDF commander for the region of capital Male’ city.
The Prosecutor General (PG) office had earlier withdrawn charges levied against Didi. The case annulled by the Criminal Court, on Monday, was the second case filed against Brigadier General Didi.
Speaking to local media, Mihaaru, Didi stated that the case cannot proceed further in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Court as well as precedents by the Supreme Court and High Court after the first charges were withdrawn by the PG office. He further pledged that he would always remain loyal to the citizens who elected him as MP.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has also been convicted to a period of 13 years under terrorism charges over arresting former Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed. PG office, on Sunday, had requested the top court to review the 13-year jail sentence imposed on Nasheed and the rulings made in the appeal processes.
