Abdul Raheem Abdulla, a senior member of the ruling coalition and PNC chairperson, emphasized that despite the loss of the mayoral seat in Malé City, recent by-elections indicate substantial support for the government or the coalition.

Election Commission data reveals that PPM/PNC candidates secured victory in 18 out of the 23 by-elections conducted since October.

While opposition candidate Adam Azim claimed the mayoral post in the latest by-election, two of the three vacant seats in the Malé City Council were won by PNC candidates.

"We have observed positive statistics over the last two months, indicating an increase in PPM/PNC support. These positive results are attributed to President Dr Muizzu fulfilling promises," stated the former Fonadhoo MP.

Abdul Raheem expressed that as the government continues to function effectively, support is expected to grow, particularly for the president. He anticipates more significant and favorable results in the future as President Dr Muizzu works towards turning campaign pledges into reality.

"For instance, we are working on reducing flat rents in Hulhumalé. President Dr Muizzu has expressed his commitment to reducing flat prices. This positive impact will not only be felt by the city residents but will extend to benefit the entire country," he elaborated.

Addressing the low voter turnout in the Malé City Council by-election, Abdul Raheem acknowledged the challenge. He has previously admitted that the coalition lost the mayoral seat due to insufficient efforts in securing the election.
