Director-General of Transitions and People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, said that he believes the government is working to transfer political appointees to posts in the civil service.
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday, October 12, by the President-elect's Office, Abdul Raheem alleged that these transfers will be made while retaining the same salary they have been receiving in their political appointments.
He called upon the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to ensure that this is not allowed to happen.
"The political posts are being filled by people who support the incumbent government's political ideology. The incoming government will consist of individuals with a differing viewpoint," Abdul Raheem said.
"People from political posts in this government transitioning into the incoming administration by transferring to civil service positions when the new government's appointees join the workforce is something that absolutely should not be done."
The CSC has directed all offices of the State that prior permission must be obtained before any posts except the immediately necessary are filled during this transitional period.
A letter from the Civil Service Commission (CSC) detailed that posts other than those of doctors, nurses, teachers, muezzins, and Imams can only be filled during this transitional period through obtaining prior written permission.
President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that he will limit the number of political appointments in his administration to no more than 700.
