Secretary Bilateral at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Hala Hameed has appealed to Maldivian students living abroad to register at the Maldivian embassies in the respective countries.
Hameed made this request while speaking at a meeting today with students who are scheduled to leave to complete studies under scholarships granted from Turkey.
She said that registering at the embassies would make the process of contacting and providing assistance under any circumstances where embassy aid is necessitated more prompt and easier.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development.
In case of natural disasters or other critical situations, the embassies have even previously provided assistance to students and Maldivian living in those countries, sometimes even arranging travel back home. In such situations, it is difficult to organize assistance for students who remain unregistered.
The scholarships from Turkey were granted following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's visit to the country. Turkey offers Bachelor's Degree, Masters' Degree and doctoral degree level scholarships. As of now, 14 students have been selected, with 11 having already left to Turkey to pursue their studies.
