President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih extends his congratulations to president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his victory in the presidential election on Saturday evening.
In a post on X, Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) candidate president Solih congratulated Dr. Muizzu for his victory and thanked his supporters for voting him.
"I congratulate Dr. Muizzu for his victory in the presidential election. I express my gratitude to the citizens for their exemplary democratic behavior during the election. My thanks go to MDP and AP [Adhaalath Party], who worked alongside me, as well as to all Maldivians who cast their vote for me," President Solih said.
The second round of the election took place today, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Approximately 85 percent of eligible voters, totaling 240,000 people, exercised their right to vote.
Dr. Muizzu, the candidate who contested on the People's National Congress (PNC) ticket, secured the lead in the election with a total of 53.9 percent of the votes, receiving 126,612 votes in his favor. This marked a lead of 18,432 votes over president Solih, who received 108,180 votes.
